What makes you the Next Music Star?
The DJB brings country soul, Southern rock grit, and stories rooted in Carolina life. From Elizabeth City, North Carolina, we take original songs like “Misery,” “Raised Carolina,” "One More," “Live in the Sticks,” and “A Little Crazy” to stages across Eastern North Carolina and Southeast Virginia. Our shows turn festivals, hometown stages, and local bars into celebrations where the crowd becomes part of the night. We have worked for every mile, every radio spin, and every fan singing along. That work has earned national radio airplay, three straight Best of the Albemarle wins, and the 2026 Josie Music Award for Country Group Song of the Year for “Misery.” We are proud of our roots and give back through Grassroots 252 and the North Carolina Rock Autism Music Festival. What makes us the band to watch is original music, hard earned momentum, genuine connection, and the belief that our best days are ahead. We want people to feel something, come together, and leave wanting more.
What do you love about music and performing?
We love music because it brings people together. A song can hold a piece of home, tell a story people recognize, or turn a night into memory. For us, that feeling starts in the songs we grew up with and continues in the originals we write from life here in Carolina. Country and Southern rock give us room for grit and heart, and we love putting our stamp on the music that shaped us. Performing is where it comes alive. There is nothing like stepping onstage, hearing the first notes, and watching a room full of strangers sing, dance, laugh, and become part of the show. We feed off that energy and value the people who come out, bring friends, and sing along. Every crowd is different, every night has its own story, and that keeps us hungry to play the next one. The miles, long days, and family time missed are part of the road, but sharing music makes it worth it. We are proud to be raised Carolina and grateful to keep doing what we love. We keep coming back for that feeling with every show!
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
Our sound comes from Carolina roots. Daniel grew up surrounded by music: his mother sang in church, his father played beach music, and his grandmother’s country songs sparked his songwriting. We draw from Hank Williams Jr., Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, and Alabama, the Southern rock fire of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the energy of KISS, Prince, AC/DC, and Mötley Crüe. Those influences meet in the country soul and rock grit we bring to the stage, with songs shaped by real people. We’re proud to build this as independent artists from Elizabeth City, one show and one song at a time. We dream of growing alongside other independent musicians, sharing stages, writing together, and helping each other reach new listeners. We’d jump at the chance to collaborate with country stars like Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, or Keith Urban. Keith’s music marks a turning point in Daniel’s story, so that dream would mean so much. Wherever music takes us, we’ll keep it honest, loud, and Raised Carolina.
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
As a small band from Eastern NC, $10,000 would help us take our music farther while staying true to the people and places that got us here. We'd put part of it toward travel, lodging, and the practical costs of reaching new towns, festivals, and audiences beyond our area. We would invest in dependable gear that improves our overall sound and gives us more ways to make each live show memorable, from the first note to the last. Better equipment would help us present our original songs with the care they deserve and deliver a stronger experience for the fans who come to see us. We would also share with our community by donating to Grassroots 252 Co. and the NC Rock Autism Music Festival, which supports special needs families across northeastern NC. For us, success means growing as musicians, sharing the music we love, and giving something back. This support would help us reach more listeners, put on better shows, and keep Carolina music and community at the heart of what we do.
