Learn More About She Groove
What makes you the Next Music Star?
She Groove is a powerhouse trio of seasoned musicians who prove you don’t need a huge band to create a huge sound. With Leah Hooks on vocals, Elisa Hooks on bass and Gavett “Groovin G” Burch on guitar, we bring years of experience, musicianship and personality together on one stage. What makes She Groove different is the connection. We don’t just perform for an audience; We perform with them. We read the room, interact, improvise and turn each performance into an experience that belongs to the people who are there. Three women. Three distinct musical voices. One undeniable groove. We’re experienced enough to know who we are, hungry enough to keep growing, and ready to show a much bigger audience what She Groove can do.
What do you love about music and performing?
We love what happens between the stage and the audience. Music can completely change the energy in a room. Someone starts singing along, somebody else gets up to dance, strangers start smiling at each other, and suddenly everyone is sharing the same moment. That connection is why we perform. We love interacting with people, making them laugh, surprising them with a song they didn’t expect and watching a crowd come alive. Every audience is different, which means every She Groove performance is different. That exchange of energy keeps music exciting for us and there is nothing better than looking out from the stage and seeing people genuinely having a good time because of something we created together.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
Vocals: Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, CeCe Winans, Luther Vandross, Jill Scott, Adele and more. Bass: Joel Smith, Verdine White, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Andre Gouche, Stu Hamm, Charlie Berthoud, Victor Wooten, Wayman Tisdale Guitar: Nile Rodgers, Ernie Isley, Jubu Smith, George Benson, Norman Brown, Jonathan Butler, Paul Jackson Jr.
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
We would invest the $10,000 directly into creating a full-length She Groove album and live performance stage performances and shows. For us, that means more than simply booking studio time. The prize would help fund professional recording, production, mixing, mastering and the other pieces necessary to take original music from the stage to a finished project we can share everywhere. We’ve spent years performing, developing our sound and building an audience one show at a time. Creating a full album is the next step in telling our own musical story. Winning would give three working musicians the opportunity to turn the sound and chemistry people experience at a She Groove show into something permanent: Original music that can reach people far beyond the rooms we currently perform in.
