What makes you the Next Music Star?
I have a different type of voice. I’m not like the average singer. I believe that once I start singing, energy shifts. I can bring smiles to people’s faces when I sing, that ability alone makes me want to keep going.
What do you love about music and performing?
Music is my therapy. There are so many distant genres and styles of music, I aim to discover as much as I can. Anything with a groove is an instant dopamine boost. There’s a song for any mood you come across, discovering them is something I really enjoy doing. Performing hasn’t always been my strong suit. I’ve been singing my whole life and started performing in church as a child. That experience taught me stage presence, where to look while I perform, what to perform for different crowds, etc. I love for my performances to be personal, because you never know what someone is going through and your performance can have the power to shift someone’s mindset. You never know. I strive to be entertaining but not to the point where it takes away the sound or personality of my voice.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Chris Brown and Jazmine Sullivan are my favorite vocalists of all time. Each of their voices I have studied since I was a little girl. It’s almost like getting voice lessons from your dream team of singers. Dream collaborators include Chris Brown, SZA, Jhene Aiko and Adele. I feel like we could make music that takes R&B to another level. A completely new sound. Their voices are amazing and a really nice blend, I’d definitely list them as my dream collaborators.
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
I would invest in myself. I have so much music to make, so much work to do. I’d definitely start my own home studio to save money recording and editing. I could also invest in basic streaming equipment to then go live when I record at home. People love to watch artists create their music in real time. I’d really like doing that because it would cause my name to be heard more and I can make music while putting my name out there at the same time. A portion would be put up for savings and another portion would go to my sister’s radiology program. She’s been pushing her way thru school herself and as my best friend and little sister, it would make me happy to see her not have to stress over her grades and get tuition.
