What makes you the Next Music Star?
I think what makes me the Next Music Star is that there’s a real person behind the music. I’m a father, I work a regular job, I deal with the same pressure, relationships, doubts and responsibilities everybody else does, and I turn that life into music. I can rap, be melodic and move through different sounds without losing myself. I’m still learning, still sharpening my pen and still building. I don’t need this opportunity to tell me I’m an artist. I want the opportunity to show how far I can take it.
What do you love about music and performing?
What I love most about music is being able to take something I’m thinking or feeling and turn it into something another person can connect with. Recording is where I’ve experienced that so far. I haven’t had the opportunity to perform live yet, and that’s actually part of what excites me about this competition. I want to experience that connection in real time, look out into a crowd and see people feeling something I created. For me, performing would be the next step in bringing the music to life.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
My inspirations are all over the map, and I think that’s why I never want my music boxed in. André 3000, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Isaiah Rashad, Future, Frank Ocean, XXXTentacion, Kurt Cobain, Papa Roach, Disturbed, The Menzingers, Tory Lanez, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and Rocko have all influenced me differently. I admire artists who can make you think, feel, escape or hear something in a way you haven’t before. My dream is to have that same freedom, cross genres without losing myself, and create music that lives beyond whatever moment it was released in.
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
I’d treat the $10,000 as an investment, not a paycheck. I’d put it directly into building the next chapter of Offsaint: professional mixing and mastering, original production, strong visuals, marketing and a real release campaign for my music. I’d also invest in my live performance so I’m prepared for bigger stages when they come. I’ve already been building with the resources I have. The prize would give me the ability to execute those ideas at the level I’ve been working toward and turn one opportunity into something that lasts.
