What makes you the Next Music Star?
I'm all for representation in the media, and frankly, I don't think we see enough Asians in mainstream music. YET! As a Chinese-Canadian artist, I'm determined to be part of that change and inspire others to see themselves on the world's biggest stages. I want to show that there's room for all of us in this industry, regardless of our backgrounds. And most importantly, I want to make some FUN music while I'm at it!
What do you love about music and performing?
Feeling the UNITED energy from the audience! Seeing people dance and sing their hearts out reminds me of the power of music. I love that it's never a ME thing; it's about EVERYONE. There's no performance without an audience, and there's no song without the team of people who bring it to life. To me, music is all about bringing people together, and there's no better feeling than being part of that connection.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
My biggest inspirations are Michael Jackson and Britney Spears. I'd also love to write a fun country song with Taylor Swift. She was actually the one who inspired me to pick up a guitar and write my very first released song, "Thinkin Bout You."
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
I recently lost my beloved family dog, and watching him struggle with health complications, especially kidney stones, was heartbreaking. If I won $10,000, I would donate it to veterinary teaching hospitals to support research into safer kidney transplants for dogs and improve their success rates. I hope that one day, fewer families will have to experience the heartbreak of losing their best friend too soon.
