What makes you the Next Music Star?

Music is all I am. I've been writing songs since I was 14, and from the moment I wake up until I fall asleep. it's what I eat, breathe and live for. My music is about the struggles and the comebacks in my life. When someone tells me a song got them through something hard, that's when I know I'm doing what I was born to do. It inspires me to write more. The next music star should be someone people believe in, because they hear their own story in the songs. That's what I give my listeners every time, and I'm ready to give it to a much bigger audience.

What do you love about music and performing?

I make music seven days a week, and I never feel like I need a break. It takes me to a special place. Writing a new song, producing it, then mixing and mastering it is so rewarding, and it all pays off when I perform and see how people connect with my songs and lyrics. What I love most is when a fan comes up to me after a show and tells me a song helped them. One night a man came up to me after my set. He had been going through a mental health crisis and felt like he had no way out. Then he heard me singing, and my songs told him something he needed to hear. He thanked me for giving him the inspiration to keep moving forward. That's what my music is all about. I believe I'm here for a reason, and my connection with the people who hear my music means more to me than anything.

Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?

This is a tricky question, because my inspirations are all over the place. I'm a multi-genre artist, and I love throwing different sounds together in one song. If I had to pick my biggest inspirations, Lindsey Buckingham is one, for his production style and the way he plays guitar. David Bowie is another. He was always reinventing himself and he was fearless, and that's what I strive to be. Dua Lipa is my pop influence. Her hooks are so catchy they stick with you after one listen. She's undeniably good. My most recent influences are The Midnight and The Strike. I love the nostalgic, '80s-inspired vibe in their music, and you can hear it in my newer songs. I'm also inspired by the local artists in Kansas City who are out there grinding every night. They're a big part of why I keep pushing.

What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?

I was given up for adoption when I was 4 and adopted when I was 9, but my adoptive family didn't accept me for who I was. At 15, I ran away. I lived with friends in different states, but I could never find a place that felt like home. Sixteen years ago, when I was struggling, a musician heard my story and reached out to me. She and her husband took me in and wanted to help with my music because they believed in me. She even gave up her full-time job to manage my career. I owe everything to them for sacrificing so much to get me where I am today. So every dollar of the prize money would go to them, for pulling me out of a hole I fell into a long time ago. Knowing them, they probably won't accept it. And if they do, they'll want it to go right back into my music, because what they've always wanted most is for me to keep doing what I love.
