About Gilded Mercy

Gilded Mercy is an independent electronic project built to erase genre lines—house energy, pop hooks, rock attitude. I write for the moment a room erupts, and I’m building a live show meant to hit like a festival set, not a playlist

Learn More About Gilded Mercy

What makes you the Next Music Star?

I came into music from the side door. I didn’t grow up following the traditional path, so I never learned to be precious about genre or the rules around it. Gilded Mercy is built on big hooks, real emotion, and putting sounds together that probably shouldn’t work until they do. What makes me the Next Music Star isn’t that I have everything figured out — it’s that I have a sound, a point of view, and absolutely no interest in making something people have already heard

What do you love about music and performing?

I love the moment a song stops being mine. Somebody puts it on in their car, sends it to a friend, screams the hook at a show, or attaches it to some moment in their life that I’ll never even know about. That’s crazy to me. Performing is getting to actually see that connection happen in real time. I don’t want people standing there politely listening to Gilded Mercy. I want the room involved.

Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?

Avicii is the clearest influence on Gilded Mercy. Tim showed me that electronic music should still be a song first. The melody and chord movement have to carry something before the production gets huge. His drops did more than hit. They could become the chorus without the words. That changed the way I think about building music. My dream collaborations are Hayley Williams, Yelawolf, Kaskade, and M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. Honestly, a full Avenged Sevenfold collaboration would be an insane collision. What draws me to all of them is how unmistakable their identities are. I do not want a feature just because the name looks good on a tracklist. I want to make something that pushes both sides somewhere neither expected to go and becomes its own thing.

What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?

I’d give it away. All $10,000. If Gilded Mercy wins, I’ll donate the cash prize to Fostering Jiu-Jitsu, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps young people access Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu regardless of their financial circumstances. I came into this thinking about what $10,000 could do for Gilded Mercy. But music is already giving me an opportunity to build something I believe in. If winning this gives me the chance to pass an opportunity to somebody else, that means more to me than another piece of gear or a bigger production budget.
