What makes you the Next Music Star?
What makes me the next music star is that I physically need to make music with depth, grit and soul, to simply survive. I am not interested in being the relatable girl next door, but a performer and pioneer. I do not rest, and will work as hard as it takes until I am a master at my craft (songwriting, acting, singing, and performing).
What do you love about music and performing?
Music and performing are the only things in this world that make me feel like me. It came so natural to me around 3 years old, when I would dance and sing to all the songs in church. I feel the safest when I am on stage. I love that through music, I can say whatever I want and not be judged for it the way I would in real life. Songwriting can be so healing. Performing is some kind of magic to me... because even when there's 10 people in the audience, I am having the time of my life up there.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
My biggest inspirations range from Janis Joplin to Etta James, to Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Prince, and The Beatles. I am inspired by performers and writers whose work was so gut- wrenchingly honest and intentional. I think art is a craft that over time, the harder you work the more skilled you will be. So a performer like Michael Jackson or Prince inspires me in that way... to become a master of my craft. My dream collaborator is hands down, Linda Perry. She produced one of the greatest albums of all time, Christina Aguilera's 'Back To Basics'. This record is, sonically, everything I dream of sounding like. Obviously, without being a copy of Christina- cause we know she is winning that game.
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
With $10,000, I will record my debut album and donate a large portion to Our Rescue, an organization working to prevent child trafficking and support survivors.
