What makes you the Next Music Star?
I never stopped believing in myself, even when other people made me feel like I should. Growing up I was bullied badly for being different and not fitting in. I still remember being in fourth grade and having a teacher pick me up and tip me into a trash can in front of the whole class. Everyone laughed and I never forgot how small that made me feel. Music became the place where I could be myself without apologising for it. I have spent years writing, recording, performing and chasing this dream through every setback. I am still here because this is genuinely what I love. Winning would mean more than just getting on a stage. It would feel like that kid who was made to feel like he did not belong finally got his moment to show that being different was never something to be ashamed of.
What do you love about music and performing?
I love that music can make someone feel understood without you ever having met them. Some of the hardest moments in my life were made easier because I could put what I was feeling into a song. When I perform, everything else disappears. I am not thinking about the things that went wrong or the people who doubted me. I am just completely present. There is something really special about looking into a crowd and seeing somebody singing your words back to you because suddenly something that started as a feeling in your bedroom belongs to everybody. That connection is what I love the most. I want people to leave one of my shows feeling happier, stronger or just a little less alone than when they walked in.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
Michael Jackson has always been one of my biggest inspirations because he understood that being an artist was about so much more than just singing a song. It was the music, the performance, the emotion and creating a moment people would never forget. I am also really inspired by Tory Lanez, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and The Weeknd, Raye, One Republic because they have taken influences from different eras and made them feel completely their own. I love great pop music, R&B, live musicianship and songs that stay with you after they finish. My dream would be to work with artists and producers who push me creatively and are not afraid to make something timeless. The artist above I mentioned definitely be dream collab. I would probably lose my mind if either one ever happened 😂
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
I would put part of the $10,000 toward my artist visa so I can keep building my career and performing in the US. Being here has opened so many doors for me, and having the right visa would give me the chance to keep chasing this properly. The rest would go straight back into my music, recording, production, visuals and live performances. I’ve invested so much of myself into this dream already, so I would use every dollar to keep moving forward and keep building the artist I know I can become.
