What makes you the Next Music Star?
Absyte was submitted for a Grammy Award in 2023 & 2025 Annual Grammies & this year’s 2026 & 2027 Grammy Awards in Hip Hop, Album of the Year & The Harry Belafonte Social Change Award as well as Best Alternative Music Performance for genre bending music all demographics can love and love plus unity is required during this time. J. Ivy submitted Absyte and has been a mentor in her life for over 25 years along with Coodie Rock from Chicago; This year, Sekou Andrew’s submitted Absyte’s new album “The Work” for consideration and voting period starts unbelievably October 4th! To be recognized this way and not be a member of the Recordibg Academy as of yet is a tremendous honor and of course so was performing at legendary venues with legendary performers such as Isaiah Sharkey & Common! Absyte has released multiple independent albums which she independently released by herself via Absolute NSYTE Productions in NYC!
What do you love about music and performing?
I love that I can infuses my passion in Hip Hop with the elements of American African Classical Music better known “Jazz” with other genres of music to begin exploring the #limitlessness of Hip Hop and my immense passion for songwriting to expand and expound the notion of what #TrueHipHeads can produce. With all that #women are told they can’t produce, I love being able to show that there are only #Limits on what you tell yourself you can achieve in this life. For me, there are #zero limits in music so I carry on to explore musical landscapes seldom allowed to #coexist together.
Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators?
I have had the immense pleasure to perform with greats such as Kendra Foster (Songwriter & Vocalist for D’Angelo as well as Isaiah Sharkley, Kamasi Washington, Casey Benjamin, Robert Glasper, Dave Chapelle and so many more which has been a rewarding experience for me over the past 8 years since The Roots engineer Steve Mandel first started following Absyte on IG 8 years ago and I met the legendary Roots crew back in 2005. I’ve have seen many ups and downs struggling at times to raise my daughter who is now a college graduate from Emerson College. I also work in IT and am a Global Program and Product Manager by trade doing music for well over 20 years professionally, first being introduced to music by her grandmother Dorothy Mae Mitchell (Rest in The Greatest Peace and Power) at the age of 4 years old. My dream collaboration would have been my mom and grandmother but they’ve gone to a better place. Music is healing for me and now my next best dream collab would be w/ WILL.I.A.M
What would you do with the $10,000 Grand Prize?
Continue building my remote production studio with a real 88 key piano not the portable kind I have now lol 😂 but seriously yes building the studio, saving a bit of it for a rainy day and investing in overseas performance opportunities (booking better travel accommodations for touring)
