• What do you love about music and performing? The truth? Music makes me happy. I’ve always loved pop music—it was my escape from real life. A chance to sing or dance and forget the worries of the day. When I’m on stage, it feels like the music flows through me… I’m just a channel, funneling that energy to the audience.
• Who are your biggest music inspirations and dream collaborators? I’ve always been a massive fan of Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. I loved that both of them transcended race and circumstance through music. I actually sampled Sting in my song American Boy In London—getting the chance to perform with him would be a dream come true.
• What makes you the Next Music Star? I’ve been singing professionally for over 20 years, and I truly believe this is finally my time. I thought it would happen when I was 16—I’ve wanted this since I was a kid—but G-d had other plans. Now, I’m much more prepared to handle success than I was as a teenager.
• What would you do with the $10,000? As my dear friend Jeff always says: six months’ savings! I’d save it and invest anything extra back into my music. This isn’t about the money for me—it’s about the exposure and the chance to share my voice and music on the Wango Tango stage.
